This week it is my Frankincense & Myrrh Handmade Soap – SEASONAL EDITION. This scent reminds me of lying on the beach somewhere in the warm sun, white sand and a drink in my hand that has an umbrella in it. The lime scent is the leading scent in this soap and the coconut scent is definitely very light. Most of the coconut is in the coconut oil and the coconut cream that are the base for this soap.

So order some this week and get 20% off. Good only until 11/01/09. Sales tax will be applied to purchase prior to discount being taken.

This inspired us to create a new Pumpkin Handmade Soap for the fall. This will be a Seasonal Edition Soap and produced only for the fall. Made with real pumpkin puree, powdered ginger, powdered cinnamon, powdered nutmeg and no other scents. Has a rich and creamy lather with a faint pumpkin pie smell.

So order some this week and get 20% off. Good only until 10/26/09. Sales tax will be applied to purchase prior to discount being taken.

Preparing for Fall and Holiday Boutique!

October 16, 2009 by bodybym

As fall is now upon us (and has been for close to a month now), I am working on more fall products for my fall line, as well as stocking up on items for the up comming Alameda Holiday Boutique (November 5&6 at the Vertran’s Hall in Alameda) and other shows this fall and winter.

So what’s in store? Well, I just made 2 new batches of soap. Perfect Pumpkin is made with real pumpkin and is scented with the same great fragrance oil as my other Perfect Pumpkin items. Apples & Spice is made with a wonderful fragrance oil and I will also be making lotion and shower gel to go with them.

Both of these soaps, as well as a few others, will be available in gift sets of a bottle of Lotion, a bottle of Bath & Shower Gel, a bar of Handmade Soap and a soap dish at the Boutique, other events and the Farmer’s Market starting in November. They make great hostess gifts as well as gifts for giving to the ones you love.

I do plan to also have the gift packages on the website – so look for those soon as well!

Any flight you can walk away from is a good one….or is it?

October 15, 2009 by bodybym

It was a harrowing flight the other day coming into to SFO and not one that I would ever want to repeat. After a 90 minute delay leaving Boston due to a fuel pump that wasn’t working we had quite a turbulent ride across the county, but it wasn’t that bad – there was just a lot of weather and we fought a strong head wind coming back.

With all of the storms that were going on in the area we knew that it might be a bumpy landing, but that would have been a joy compared to what we got.

Just as we came down out of the cloud cover at about 15oo feet and were approaching the runway we pulled up suddenly and had 2 episodes of falling several hundred feet in the air, which scared my 3 year old son pretty bad (thank goodness we always fly with a car seat for him – I hate to think what would have happened if he had just been using a regular seat belt – we probably would have ended up in the hospital with him) and also the rest of us in the plane. Turns out there was a good amount of wind shear that we had encountered at that time. They temporarily shut down the airport and diverted us to LAX – not Sacramento as many of us were hoping.

After 4 hours on the ground in LAX (they did let people get off the plane, but we choose to stay on, because we were afraid that our son would not want to get back on the plane if we got off, and the flight attendants were the BEST while we were on the plane) we refueled, got a whole new crew and flew back into SFO.

The take-off was bumpy and we had a few minutes where my son was pretty freaked out by it saying “Mommy, it’s scary!” – which it was after what we had just gone through – but we landed in SFO with no other major issues.

So it only took us 14 hours to get from Boston to San Francisco – which was a longer day than I had wanted – but we made it home safely and I guess that’s what matters at the end of the day.

I’m back to making soap today and it’s good to be back in the workshop!

To wrap or not to wrap…..

October 4, 2009 by bodybym

Ok, so my current delegate is whither or not to wrap my CP soap in plastic. I know, many people will tell you not to because “soap needs to breath”. While this is true, mine is not usually in the wrap that long before it finds a home.

The issues really comes up at Farmer’s Market where it’s hard for people to smell through the plastic. But one of my reasons for doing so are some of my unscented soaps (Like Goatmilk & Oatmeal) will absorb the scent of others near them. So I’m in a quandary.

As I make new batches I will try just putting a label on them (which will save me time and resources), but I have to think about my display and how to keep the scents from “bleading” into other soaps.

I plan to think about this while I am on vacation and hope to have some thoughts when I return.

I will be on vacation from October 5-14th and will fill all orders when I return starting on the 15th. We are going with my husband to Boston where he will be attending a conference and we will be exploring the wonders of a city with so much history!

I will also finally get to see Harvard where my husband did his undergraduate degree.
