Happy 4 Year Cancer-versify to me, and a coupon for you!

December 9, 2014

This past week I celebrated my fourth anniversary of being cancer free, and it struck me how far I have come in this past year. From being pregnant when getting my diagnosis, two surgeries, the delivery of my daughter, four rounds of chemo and twenty five rounds of radiation, to learning to be a cancer survivor, it has been quite a journey!

To celebrate I am giving 20% off all non-sale items on through December 19, 2014. Use the code JOYFUL at the time of checkout.

If you are currently Dealing with a cancer diagnosis or are a survivor put “Cancer will not beat me, I will beat cancer” in the comment section for a free, fragrance free, gift. Please, be honest because if you have never had cancer I hope you never have to face what it means to have cancer, and if you do or have I feel your pain.

Why make soap from beer?

September 15, 2014

Soap with Beer? Yep – I’ve made it before and I’m just getting time to box it up now. I love the way that beer soap makes my skin feel after I’m done washing with it. And despite what your thinking, the high salt content does not make it drying like one might imagine. The salt makes the bar harder and longer lasting, and with a good long cure time helps to create a rich lather that is a joy to wash with.

Beer has been used for a long time to help improve the look and feel of hair, so why not soap? I started making it for Father’s Day for the guy who has everything (except Beer Soap that is) and now it’s caught on that I’m going to add it to my regular line.

I needed a good long cure, as I make it as a Salt Bar and Salt Bars needs a good amount of time to cure to really make them a great bar of soap.

I just pulled out two batches that I made this summer and am boxing them up for shows later this month, but I will also be putting them on my website for sale.

Because of the salt in the bars they are a heavier bar, coming in just above 6.25 ounces, compared to my regular Handmade Soaps that come in at 4 and 5 ounces.

Keep a look out for it, and now, it won’t leave you smelling like last night’s pub crawl.

Happy Memorial Day to all

May 26, 2014

My maternal grandfather fought in World War II,  and a maternal uncle who fought in the Vietnam War. They are both gone now, not casualties of war,  but from age. I miss them both dearly today, and wish that they could still be with us. I am very proud of them for serving, and to all of the brave men and women who have served and lost their lives to give us freedom, Thank you. Words can never be enough to share my gratitude for all you have done for us here in the US, as well as the assistance you have provided people around the world.

It’s not just about keeping our personal freedoms here at home, but also about liberating those who are oppressed, and providing aide to those in times of tragic times, either man made or natural disaster. We often forget about those that you have helped overseas,  but those you have helped never will.

Thank you.Memorial Day

Soap Swap soaps

March 26, 2014

I recently participated in a soap swap with other soap makers, and on Monday I got my box of swaps back. I sent off 12 bars of soap that I made scented with Chai Tea and Vanilla and received these lovely bars of soap.

I love participating in soap swaps as I get to see different techniques, and I also get to smell scents that I may not have thought about using before. Sometimes they inspire me, and sometimes not, but it is always exciting to open a box of soaps from a swap and see what others are creating!

It has me looking at my soaps in a different light. It may be time to create different soaps, or to take soaps that I currently make and redesign them.  I am going to be playing with different swirling techniques and see what I can create. Stay tuned, I will post photos of my new creations as they happen.
