Peeps in a Jar – a wonderful gift from my Mother!

My mother and I share a love of all things Peeps – and this year for Christmas she gave me “Peeps in a Jar”.

Here is how you make them:

1. Crush one sleeve of graham crackers and layer the crumbs in the bottom of a one quart mason jar.
2. Place 8 Peeps standing up and facing outwards against the glass.
3. Spoon 1/3 cup of brown sugar into the middle of the jar to keep the Peeps in place.
4. Pour 1/2 cup of M&Ms over the brown sugar.
5. Put on a lid and give as a gift.

To make the Peeps in a jar into a baked good:

1. Empty the contents of the mason jar into a mixing bowl.
2. Cut the Peeps into smaller pieces.
3. Melt 1/2 cup butter and add 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
4. Pour the butter and vanilla over the dry ingredients and mix well.
5. Pat down into a greased 8×8 inch baking dish
6. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
7. Cool and cut into bars.

Could you make this with mini marshmallows so that you wouldn’t have to cut the Peeps into pieces? Sure, but where would the fun be in that!

Happy Peeps!
